Concrete Resurfacing and Installing a Moisture Mitigation System in Tewksbury, MA

Posted on Thursday, December 17, 2015

This industrial flooring story began in a positive way: the owner of the property was expanding his business into a previously unused portion of the building.

Sounds good so far, right?

Unfortunately, however, the flooring was not exactly ready for service. The products that had been used on the concrete surface had failed over time, creating the need for a substantial overhaul before our client’s equipment could be moved in.

With a tight timetable to work with, we were asked to step in and make sure the floor was repaired, resurfaced, and ready for use.

Installing a Moisture Mitigation System - Why Is This Important?

After the old coatings were removed, we installed a moisture-mitigating coating.

For the longer story behind why this is an important step, click over to a previous article: Does Your Concrete Floor Have a Moisture Problem? If So, What Can You Do?

Just in case you’re low on time, here’s the short version: as strange as it may sound, moisture travels through your porous concrete floor. Too much moisture can cause issues on the surface like delamination (coating failure), damage to carpet or tiles, bubbling, staining, and other problems.

A vapor barrier should be installed under your concrete slab, but sometimes those barriers either malfunction or are simply not there.

Because of this, it’s important to have the moisture content in your slab tested. If necessary, a mitigation system can be put in place that blocks the vapor before it can damage surface coatings and materials.

Topping It Off With an Epoxy Floor System

After we made sure the new moisture barrier was in place, we installed an epoxy floor system. What are the benefits?

  • Abrasion-resistant
  • Low odor
  • Offers a seamless, easy to clean surface
  • Extremely durable
  • High-gloss/reflective (if needed)

Not only was this floor sound, strong, and ready for service, but our client was thrilled with how it all turned out. This is exactly what we hope for!
