3 Key Preparations for an Inspection

Jay Culbert:
Hi everybody, hope you're doing well today. Today, we are going to talk about how to prepare for and how to pass an inspection. We're going to cover three key elements. The first of which is lockout tag out; the second, fall protection; the third, slip, trip and fall hazards.

Jay Culbert:
So when I say inspection, that can include a walkthrough or inspection from multiple agencies, such as the FDA, OSHA, or other regulatory or governing authorities. It can also include an internal audit or a customer walk through to inspect your facility. So the first, lockout tag out. The overarching theme here is to terminate any and all power or other sources going to a particular piece of equipment or process for the safety of those working there.

Jay Culbert:
So step one, terminate the source. Step two, which is unfortunately oftentimes overlooked or skipped, verify the termination of the source. Step three, make sure each person in that area, working in that area or doing anything in that area, puts their own lock and tag on that piece of equipment that switch, that breaker or that valve.

Jay Culbert:
Okay. Number two is fall protection. You have to have a good hazard analysis program to properly execute this, and then how to prevent the fall and how to control the fall. Some things included here are, do you have proper ladder safety? Do you have proper roof barrier systems, adequate tie off points and appropriate PPE such as lanyards, et cetera.

Jay Culbert:
Okay. The third topic is slip, trip and fall hazards. Overall, good housekeeping will handle 99% of the hazards in this category. So, what does some of those include? Obstructed view, uneven flooring, uncovered electrical cords or cables, et cetera. Fortunately, most accidents can be prevented with proper programs in place. Unfortunately, most accidents occur because people take shortcuts or do not follow proper procedures.

Jay Culbert:
