Painting Shipping Containers for Whole Foods Market in Hyannis, MA
In case you haven’t heard, shipping containers are enjoying a whole new level of popularity. Sure, they’ve always been appreciated for their usefulness in the realm of, well, shipping, but now they’re being utilized in a wide variety of other ways. Many folks are even using them to build custom homes, but that’s a story for another post.
We were contacted recently by Whole Foods Market in Hyannis, MA, because, to put it bluntly, they were in a bit of a jam.
The Problem!
Whole Foods purchased a number of used shipping containers with the goal of repurposing them to be outdoor vending structures. This is a great idea!
These containers arrived with what should have been a healthy powder-coated finish, but unfortunately the finish had completely failed. This meant that not only was it unsightly and flaking, but the exposed steel had already begun to rust.
On top of that, they needed to be ready for operation by the following Friday, and it was already Tuesday.
The Solution — A Quick Turnaround Time for Commercial Painting
We are proud of the fact that we at Kaloutas have the experience, training, and equipment needed to meet unique and time-sensitive requirements. Our clients know that we’ll jump in and get the job done well, and we don’t take this kind of trust lightly.
And so, with the problem in one hand and the short timeline in the other, we got to work!
- We matched the needed colors, then scraped and prepared the surfaces and wheels of the storage container.
- Next, we applied a fantastic primer: Sherwin Williams Kem Bond HS Universal Metal Primer (we’ll share a few benefits of using this product in just a minute).
- We also tinted the primer to a shade of grey (no novel or movie jokes, please) to make sure the color holdout was optimized.
- To top things off, we put down two coats of Sherwin-Williams Pro Industrial Multi-Surface Acrylic. This included the wheels.
The Good News?
We made it with time to spare.
These cleverly repurposed units were ready to serve customers before their 7am opening on Friday. It was very gratifying to see everyone so relieved, pleased, and amazed.
So, back to the primer.
The Sherwin-Williams Kem Bond HS Universal Metal Primer is a wonderful product. It is incredibly durable, inhibits the development of rust, dries quickly, and it’s low-VOC (has very little odor). Choosing a product that not only looks great but that we know will endure as a barrier of protection is one of our priorities.
