Concrete Grinding and Sealing - Creating a Durable, Attractive Industrial Floor

Are you look­ing for a valu­able, cost-effec­tive way to pre­serve your con­crete floor? We recent­ly pro­vid­ed con­crete grind­ing and seal­ing ser­vices for a client of ours, and because of all that this process offers we thought it would be worth­while to share the project pho­tos and infor­ma­tion. Per­haps this treat­ment would work well for your own com­mer­cial or indus­tri­al floor!

This par­tic­u­lar project involved three pri­ma­ry steps:

• We removed all glue and mas­tic — This floor was cov­ered in a sticky residue. Stage one involved grind­ing the floor down in order to cre­ate a smooth, recep­tive sur­face that was free of stickiness.
• Grind­ing - The grind­ing process that we just men­tioned involved using three pro­gres­sive­ly fin­er cuts with our dia­mond grinders. This is very much like using incre­men­tal­ly fin­er sand­pa­per dur­ing a wood-work­ing project, only on a much, much larg­er scale.
• Seal­er - We then applied a Land­mark Ure­thane For­ti­fied Acrylic Sealer/​Finish by Perma.

The grind­ing process, as you might imag­ine, can some­times cre­ate dust issues. Thanks to our fan­tas­tic, state-of-the-art equip­ment, we were able to keep dust to such a min­i­mum that the oth­er con­struc­tion trades at work around us could keep mov­ing undisturbed.

Why Apply Seal­er to Your Concrete?

Despite the fact that con­crete is a durable mate­r­i­al, it does need to be main­tained and pre­served. One of the pri­ma­ry ben­e­fits of a con­crete seal­er is that it will fill the porous sur­face, build­ing a mois­ture and stain-resis­tant, pro­tec­tive fin­ish. As an added ben­e­fit, it leaves a smooth, wet look for your floor that is a def­i­nite upgrade from marred, tired concrete.

Do You Need to Seal Con­crete After Grinding?

Though con­crete is excep­tion­al­ly durable, it’s not a main­te­nance-free asset. Con­crete seal­er is essen­tial in this upkeep. It allows the con­crete to become mois­ture and stain-resis­tant. Addi­tion­al­ly, it leaves a smooth, wet look for your floor mak­ing it more aes­thet­i­cal­ly pleasing.
