Polishing Concrete and Flooring in Beverly, MA - The Benefits Might Just Surprise You!
“Back to school” in style!
We were recently contracted by a private school in Beverly to help refresh and prepare their flooring for the upcoming school year. Our work was just part of the equation; other trades were busy making various improvements as well. This, combined with the rapidly approaching start of the academic year, created the need for carefully-coordinated, fast work on our part that would be wrapped up before the bell rang.
Finding a Durable Flooring Option That Fit the Style of the School
Commercial flooring isn’t always about function alone; the style needs to fit and flow with the surrounding architecture and design too.
In this case, the school needed an attractive, natural, simple style that could also withstand the frequent stampeding of young feet. It was decided that the best option for checking off the items on their list of must-haves was polishing their concrete floors.
What exactly are the benefits of polishing concrete? We’re glad you asked! But before we dig into the “why,” let’s take a look at the “how.”
What Does the Concrete Polishing Process Look Like?
If you have ever sanded a piece of wood, you know that first you remove the outer layer of bark or existing finish. The process then involves sanding with a rough sandpaper to begin the process of smoothing the surface. After the initial sanding, you can then move to incrementally finer and finer papers until the wood is buttery smooth.
Concrete polishing is extremely similar. Using our state-of-the-art diamond grinders, our technicians will expertly and systematically take your concrete from rough and unattractive to refined, bright, and protected.
What Are the Benefits of Concrete Polishing?
Here are a few key benefits to keep in mind:
- Offers a high-gloss, dust-free finish
- Ideal for floors that have a higher moisture content as well since there are no coatings involved
- Because of the silicate-based concrete densifier that we use to treat the floor, your concrete will have an enduring shine without a coating
- Increased traction
- Extremely durable
- The polishing process and densifier decreases the porosity, meaning your floor becomes less absorbent. In turn, this makes cleaning and maintenance easier and fights against staining
- The process can be turned around quickly!
In addition to polishing the surfaces throughout the lobby and hallways, we also added a cove base. This contour that connects the floor and walls not only looks great, but it also eliminates the 90-degree angle where dirt and moisture can collect. It’s very sanitary and easy to keep clean!
