Protecting Concrete with a Moisture Mitigation System in Newburyport, MA
If you really dig into the topic of concrete, you might be surprised to find that the related terms sound more like they belong in a science textbook than a conversation about flooring. Capillaries, breathing, moisture transmission, pressure equalization, and the list goes on…
There’s a good reason for this.
Expert industrial flooring installation and maintenance does require a scientific understanding and approach. Well, at least if you want your floors to last!
This particular client in Newburyport, MA was looking for a functional, long-term flooring solution for their adhesives manufacturing facility. They needed painting services as well, and were happy to find that we could keep things simple for them by handling both aspects of their project.
A high moisture content in their concrete slab called for extra expertise, and we were happy to provide it. Let’s take a closer look!
Bonus Tip:
If you aren’t sure of how much moisture is in your concrete slab, be sure to have it tested! This will inform and guide your floor installation decisions, and can protect you from premature system failure. Installing Concrete Moisture Controls and an Epoxy Floor System
The goal was to install a tri-coat floor system from Protective Industrial Polymers.
To keep their moisture transmission levels in check, we took the following steps:
- Shot blasted the floor to a concrete surface profile of 4, ensuring that the moisture mitigation system would properly adhere to the surface.
- In certain areas where stubborn mastic needed to be removed, we also diamond grinded the surface.
- We installed a base coat of PIP epoxy.
- The base coat was then topped by a high-wear urethane coat. This included the glass bead anti-slip additive for extra workplace traction.
Our client was thrilled with the end result, and with our project management abilities throughout the process. Beyond flooring and wall painting, we also were happy to provide the peace of mind that comes from knowing a potential problem was addressed properly and effectively.
